AP After Hours - Painting Miniatures

When not attending to her daily duties at Redcliffe Aerodrome (YRED), our Aerodrome Reporting Offiicer Sharna Tonkin is somewhat of a self-proclaimed ''geek at heart''.

After hours, Sharna often partakes in Tabletop Role Playing Games (TTRPGs), such as Dungeons and Dragons - a collaborative storytelling game. More recently, Sharna's love of D&D combined with her background in visual art, saw her discovering a new favored hobby - painting miniatures (or minis).

Whilst minis are often purposefully designed for use during TTRPGs, Sharna finds great enjoyment in the simple act of painting them, often for display purposes only. Through the use of specialised paints, tiny brushes, steady hands and a lot of patience, Sharna transforms what were once ordinary, plastic figures, into vibrant and fantastical creatures.

This fine attention to detail is just one of the many qualities that make Sharna such a great ARO.

Below, Sharna shares with us some images of her various pieces - we love the unique sense of character in each miniature.

A small sized figure takes around 6 hours to paint, while a larger figure can take up to 12-24 hours of work.

What a fantastic talent!
