CASA Charts the Future of Drones and Advanced Air Mobility

Australia’s Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) is advancing its Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) Strategic Regulatory Roadmap, providing a clearer framework for the safe integration of drones and AAM into national airspace.

This month, CASA hosted an industry webinar outlining its next steps - including airworthiness standards for large RPAS, expanded approval pathways for Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) operations and updates to maintenance licensing frameworks for drone systems. CASA is also seeking industry feedback on proposed airworthiness amendments, reflecting a proactive and collaborative approach to safety and innovation.

For organisations involved in aviation planning, infrastructure, and airspace protection, these developments have direct implications. The roadmap will influence how future drone and electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) operations are designed, approved, and integrated with existing airport and airspace systems.

At Aviation Projects, understanding these regulatory shifts is key to supporting clients through feasibility assessments and safety case preparation. The evolving RPAS and AAM framework offers both challenges and opportunities, and early alignment with CASA’s direction will ensure projects are future-ready and compliant. Talk to us today.
