Archerfield Airport's Project AIM (Airside Infrastructure Modernisation) involves lengthening the main runway, providing runway end safety areas and installing new LED runway lighting. Complementary works include runway and adjoining taxiway strengthening, new LED taxiway lighting and other safety improvements such as Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI).

On 17 June 2019, the Deputy Prime Minister and Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development, Michael McCormack, approved the draft Major Development Plan, which means that Archerfield Airport Corporation can now finalise the MDP and commence detailed design and planning for the construction works.

The project represents some $17.5 million worth of planned airport improvements, which will help cater for anticipated growth in aircraft movements and ensure that Archerfield Airport continues to play a supportive role to Brisbane Airport for the foreseeable future.

Aviation Projects acted as principal aeronautical infrastructure planning consultant and continues to support project delivery through the detailed design process and preparation of safety cases to resolve complex compliance issues.
