Peter White travelled to Tasmania this month to meet with Cranbourn Airfield stakeholders to discuss a proposed transmission line project in the surrounding area. Cranbourn Airfield is located in Tasmania’s north, situated within the Tamar Valley, a pleasant 20-minute drive from Launceston CBD. The airfield is nestled within a scenic rural farming area, and is only a short flight from the Tamar river.

Cranbourn Airfield has recently received Council approval for 14 new hangars on-site to accompany the existing 13 hangars. On their 600 metre duel runways, Cranbourn hangars 20 light aircraft, from the graceful Trike to the Chinese Nanchang.

Meeting with our client, the local pilot community and aerodrome owner was an opportunity to gather information and determine the various considerations of potential impacts of the proposed transmission project.

Our assessment scope in relation to the proposed project includes:

  • Review of current NASF Guidelines and report on the applicability to the current and likely future operations of the aerodrome
  • Review of Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR) in relation to flight operations at uncontrolled aerodromes and obstacles in the vicinity
  • Prepare a draft Preliminary Aeronautical Impact Assessment, including:
     - Regulatory requirements for aircraft operations at uncontrolled aerodromes
     - Review of current flight operations at Cranbourn Airfield.

At Aviation Projects, we provide trusted advice about airport planning, development and operations and aerodrome safeguarding. Contact us today.
