CAPA Airline Leader Summit Australia Pacific 2025

AP’s Managing Director Keith Tonkin joined hundreds of aviation industry leaders and key decision makers from across the Asia Pacific at the CAPA Airline Leader Summit Australia Pacific in Cairns 30 July – 01 August 2025. The 2025 agenda delved deep into current travel sector trends and opportunities, as well as analysed the direction the industry is headed.

Keith moderated a panel of industry leaders as they discussed ‘Managing risk in a volatile global climate’.

Some of the key issues that were discussed:

  • Geopolitical events are shorter and sharper than previously experienced – think of the airspace closures in Qatar, Chinese ships firing missiles into civilian airspace in the Tasman Sea, US tariffs
  • Long range narrowbody aircraft such as the A321XLR are a game-changer for the region, enabling direct flights to new further afield destinations
  • Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is an important component of the aviation industry’s plan to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050, but there will need to be a significant increase in the production and availability of SAF to meet demand, in part enabled by appropriate government policy (financial incentives)
  • There is profit to be made with good risk management
  • We’re not talking about pre-COVID any more – the new normal is here now.
