Supporting Safer Aviation Through Specialist Training in Botswana

AviAssist Foundation is a non-profit aviation safety organisation focused on improving aviation safety across Africa through training, knowledge sharing, and professional development. AviAssist works with airports, airlines, regulators, and aviation professionals throughout Africa to help strengthen operational safety standards and build local aviation capability. Their work commonly includes:

  • Aviation safety training courses and workshops
  • Airport and airside safety programs
  • Safety leadership and human factors training
  • Runway safety and safeguarding initiatives
  • Mentoring and professional development for aviation personnel
  • Industry events and networking opportunities.

Next month, Keith Tonkin will deliver specialist aviation training at the upcoming AviAssist Obstacle Limitation Surfaces Event held in Gaborone, Botswana, supporting continued improvements in aviation safety and safeguarding capability across the region.

The training will focus on Obstacle Limitation Surfaces (OLS) and the critical role they play in protecting airspace around airports and aerodromes. Participants will gain practical insights into identifying and managing obstacles, maintaining compliance with international aviation standards, and supporting safe airport operations and future development planning.

AviAssist is well known for delivering practical, operationally focused training tailored to the realities of aviation operations in African regions. The Obstacle Limitation Surfaces (OLS) event in Botswana is an example of this, bringing together experienced aviation specialists, like Keith, together with regional aviation professionals to support safer and more sustainable airport operations.

Through initiatives such as this, Aviation Projects is proud to contribute industry expertise that strengthens aviation knowledge, operational safety, and long-term aviation resilience across international aviation communities.
