Aviation Projects is actively supporting CASA’s development of CASR Part 5 – Safety Management Systems (SMS) and its alignment with the ICAO Annex 19 SMS framework. As a Part 173 certificate holder, Aviation Projects was invited to participate in CASA’s CASR Part 5 Industry Consultation Group, providing industry input to help ensure the proposed regulatory changes are practical, effective and deliver meaningful safety outcomes.
Our involvement has focused on reviewing the proposed SMS framework, system description, hazard identification, risk assessment and mitigation, safety assurance, management of change, safety performance monitoring and safety promotion. We have also provided feedback on potential unintended consequences and the proposed two-year transition period, supporting a realistic implementation approach for existing authorisation holders.
Aviation Projects is committed to maintaining a robust and continuously improving SMS aligned with Australian and international requirements. The proposed transition provides an opportunity to review our existing SMS, address identified gaps and implement CASR Part 5 requirements effectively. Through our active engagement with CASA and our industry colleagues, Aviation Projects is helping support a consistent, risk-based and internationally aligned approach to aviation safety management.
