Welcome to Aviation Projects - Stewart Murphy

Aviation Projects is pleased to introduce Stewart Murphy as our new Aviation Consultant and Safety Manager.

Stewart joins Aviation Projects with more than 35 years of aviation experience spanning air traffic services, aviation safety regulation, and operational oversight across military, civil, and international aviation environments. His extensive career has seen him work from frontline operational roles to senior regulatory oversight positions.

In his role with Aviation Projects, Stewart will provide specialist advice and support across airspace safeguarding, airport planning and development, operational risk management, airspace and instrument flight procedure design, compliance inspections, impact assessments, and aeronautical studies. His practical approach and wealth of experience will further strengthen our ability to deliver high-quality outcomes for developers, airports, industry stakeholders, and communities navigating increasingly complex aviation environments.

Before joining Aviation Projects, Stewart served as Senior Inspector - Air Traffic and Meteorological Services with the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority. In this role, he led strategic safety and operational oversight activities across Air Navigation Service Providers, including surveillance programs, certification oversight, State Safety Program initiatives, and international regulatory audits conducted within government and private organisations.

Stewart has also held senior safety leadership positions with Abu Dhabi Airports and Global Air Navigation Services, where he was responsible for implementing and continuously improving aviation safety systems within dynamic operational settings.

His aviation journey began with the Royal Australian Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller, before progressing through operational and supervisory roles with Airways Corporation of New Zealand, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and Meteorology in Oman, and air traffic service organisations throughout the Middle East. Throughout his career, Stewart has served as an Air Traffic Controller, Supervisor, On-the-Job Training Instructor, Critical Incident Stress Management Officer, and Air Traffic Services Safety Investigator.

Stewart’s commitment to service has been recognised through numerous honours and awards, including the Meritorious Unit Citation, Australian Active Service Medal, United Nations Operations in Somalia Medal (UNOSOM), Air Force Ground Combat Badge, Australian Defence Force Medal, and the Australian Returned from Active Service Award.
